Unlike any other high school winter season ever before, wrestling and basketball concluded on the same day. Typically months apart, the pandemic forced the two postseasons crown champions on the same day.

The highly anticipated matchup finally arrived on Saturday with South Seneca sophomore Caleb Sweet squaring off against Palmyra-Macedon senior Jace Schafer on that mat.

GENEVA — High-risk winter sports began practice this week, with games set to begin next week. In less than a month, the winter season will ramp up and overlap with the Fall II sports season — a rare crossroads of football and basketball meeting before spring sports get underway.
